Product description
The oil-pressure plunger, held in tension by a spring, is located behind a fairly large locking screw at the bottom of the crankcase. On Type 1 and Type 3 engines up to and including July 1969, a single plunger is present, diagonally below the oil pump. from this date onwards, it was replaced by two plungers, the second being located on the flywheel side.
On CT/CZ, Type 4 and Waterboxer (WBX) engines, there's only one plunger again, also diagonally positioned under the oil pump. This version is also much lighter: 19 grams instead of 54 grams for the original, and made of aluminum instead of steel or a very high-grade upgrade.
At the time, Volkswagen opted for a large, slotted-head locking screw, which requires a very large screwdriver. Good tools are essential, especially for removing this screw. Unfortunately, many people try to do this with too small a screwdriver, which damages the slot.
Both versions are fitted with an Allen socket. The problems associated with finding the right screwdriver are therefore a thing of the past. With a 10 mm Allen key, which almost everyone has in their toolbox, you can turn the screw in and out of the housing effortlessly.
Don't forget to order the sealing ring, which is not included as standard and can be found under the "Options" tab.
