On the Volkswagen Type 3, access to the engine compartment is located under the rear luggage compartment. In order to be able to check the oil level without having to open the engine compartment and fill it up if necessary, Volkswagen has made it possible to do this outside the engine compartment.
This required a flexible connection between the filler cap and the engine, which is secured with rubber. It is secured at the top and bottom with hose clamps.
Rubber parts can only withstand temperature changes in the event of cracks due to dryness; therefore, the oil filler rubber will also have to be replaced once. We advise you to check the condition of the rubber at each maintenance and replace it if cracks appear.
