Originally, this boot was developed for type 4 engines up to 7/1979 to ensure that no dirt can slip through the dipstick.
What many people don't know is that this boot is not only a perfect seal for the type 4 engine, but it fits perfectly on a type 1 engine.
It's a shame Volkswagen only used this part on type 4 engines, but we now know that there is no better gauge seal. Any type 1 engine should be equipped with it. It keeps the oil inside and the dirt outside, several times better than the piece of fabric used in the original type 1 part.
