Diese magnetische Öl-Ablassschraube fängt Metallspäne auf, die mit dem Öl mitgeführt werden.
Die Schraube dient somit als zusätzlicher Schutz. Wenn Sie bei einem Ölwechsel Metallpartikel am Magneten finden, ist dies eine deutliche Warnung, dass möglicherweise etwas nicht in Ordnung ist. In einem gesunden Motor sollten sich nämlich keine Metallspäne befinden. Beim Getriebe kommt dies häufiger vor; schon ein starkes Verschalten kann Metallabrieb verursachen. Das ist auch der Grund, warum alle Getriebe serienmäßig mit einer magnetischen Ablassschraube ausgestattet sind. Durch sauberes Schalten können Sie dies weitgehend vermeiden.
Für den Motor hat Volkswagen diese Lösung ab Werk bis einschließlich 8.1959 verwendet.
Es handelt sich hierbei um eine Ablassschraube in Standardmaß und nicht um eine Übermaß-Ausführung, wie Volkswagen sie damals auch für Reparaturzwecke geliefert hat.
