Product description
When building a faster Type 1 or Type 3 engine, not only the choice of displacement or camshaft is important, there is much more involved. The cam followers must match the camshaft, not only in material but also in diameter. The more aggressive the camshaft, the larger the contact surface of the cam follower must be.
With a mild camshaft, a 28 mm cam follower will generally suffice, this is the standard size, but with a more aggressive camshaft the surface may be too small and a larger 30 or 31 mm version must be used.
We aim to save as much weight as possible, what is not present does not have to be moved, which results in more power and more efficient engine operation.
All cam followers are manufactured from a single piece of chrome molybdenum aluminum, ensuring extra strength and durability. Paruzzi cam followers are equipped as standard with an additional oil drilling that provides pressurized lubrication between the follower and the cam lobe. Especially at higher engine speeds this is certainly not an unnecessary luxury.
When using these cam followers, a higher capacity oil pump must be installed, however this is an obvious choice when seriously engaged in engine tuning.
For Type 4 engines, you can choose between mechanical and hydraulic, self-adjusting, cam followers. For serious tuning work, mechanical cam followers are generally preferred so that valve clearance can be set precisely.
When selecting cam followers, it is essential that they are of the same brand as the camshaft. The material of both the camshaft and the cam followers determines the running characteristics of these components. If cam followers from a different brand are used than the camshaft, there is a risk that the parts will not run in correctly and may cause irreparable damage.
Both Paruzzi and Webcam therefore recommend using only their own cam followers in combination with their camshafts. If this cannot be demonstrated, both components must be listed on the same invoice, no warranty claim can be made.
All cam followers are supplied in sets of 8 pieces.
During an engine rebuild it is almost essential to apply assembly paste to all moving parts, this prevents premature wear during the break-in period. Engine oil is not suitable for this purpose, it is too thin and does not remain in place during assembly. Assembly paste, on the other hand, adheres properly and protects all parts during the first operating hours.
Especially for cam followers this is extremely important to prevent excessive wear during the first minutes after start-up, therefore order assembly paste at the same time, see the Options tab.
To keep the cam followers of a Type 1 or Type 3 engine in place during assembly, special cam follower clips are available. If you have never done this before, you may try without these clips, but believe me, it is a small investment for a great deal of convenience, try holding four cam followers in place at the same time.
