Smoked headlights are common in today's cars, sometimes factory-fitted but often as an extra option to be checked off when ordering.
In our classic Volkswagen Vanagon this was never available as an option, most Vanagons with dark headlights have been treated afterwards with a spray, which is not allowed by law, it interferes with the light pattern.
By using a black outer ring and a black cross on the inside, the illusion is created that the lenses look smoky when in reality they are the same lens as the standard headlamp, so there is no loss of light. If your old headlights are equipped with Duplo bulbs, you will only get better, these smoked headlights use H4 bulbs.
By creating the illusion of a smoked headlight, you also get a European homologation (E homologation), so these headlights are allowed throughout Europe.
