Product description
The distributor drive pinion tends to push upwards due to the drive action of the bevel gear, so always mount the valve drive shaft spring when working on your engine so that the drive shaft remains in place.
When adjusting the ignition, the clamp around the igniter must be unscrewed to be able to rotate, at this point the pinion tends to make its way up. To avoid this, the pinion is kept in tension by a spring between the pinion and the distributor. In the absence of this spring, the pinion is no longer under tension, which not only influences the ignition setting but the ignition can also be disrupted while driving.
Not only a missing spring, but also a spring with insufficient spring tension can cause problems, it is also recommended to replace it during overhaul work.
