A dual brake system is much safer than the old single brake system. If just one brake line leaks, the whole braking system will stop working.
With a dual braking system, one brake circuit still does its job, even if not optimally, but you can reach the hard shoulder safely.
For a Beetle, a Karmann Ghia and a VW Type 3, it's easy enough to switch from a single to a dual braking system. Simply change the master cylinder, brake fluid reservoir and brake lines, and you're done.
For a Bus, it's a bit different, as the master cylinders are not the same in terms of fit. With this conversion kit, you have all the means to equip your Split Bus with a dual brake system using a retrofitted master cylinder.
So, in addition to this conversion kit, you'll still need the correct brake master cylinder for a VW Bus dating from August 1970 to July 1979, which was originally intended for power-assisted brakes.
Of course, this will affect the originality of your Split Bus, but don't fit seatbelts either - they weren't supplied as standard back then. Let's be honest, what's more important, a bus with a safe braking system that isn't even visible from the outside, or a 100% original bus whose passengers you know aren't being transported in the safest possible way?
