Product description
Frequent use wears out the locking mechanism. This can lead to the hook no longer gripping the lock bracket properly, and opening spontaneously. If the lock has lost its spring, there's no need to buy an entirely new lock for newer models. The spring is available as a separate spare part. Unfortunately, this is not possible for older models.
It makes sense to order new locks immediately. If the lock is so worn that it no longer works, you can assume that the latches or door wedges also need replacing.
On VW Split Bus models up to 1963, there was no difference between the left and right-hand mechanisms. On left-hand-drive VW Buses, only the right-hand door can be locked from the inside, while the left-hand door can only be locked from the outside. On right-hand-drive Bus models, it's exactly the opposite. Would you like to be able to lock both doors from the inside? That's possible by installing two locking locks. However, for the 1960 to 1963 model years, only complete locking mechanisms are available, so this is not possible in this configuration, but only with separate locks.
