Product description
If the mechanism that drives the odometer fails, the problem is usually a damaged or cracked gear. Volkswagen never supplied separate parts for this, a completely new speedometer had to be used.
The brass gear mentioned here is driven by the worm gear with which the vast majority of the odometer can be repaired.
Unfortunately, there is no precise Volkswagen documentation on the years and models of VW for which this sprocket mentioned here was used. So measure the diameter of your old gear, taking into account some wear and count the number of teeth. If this information corresponds to this equipment, your odometer will record the mileage again.
Assembly: The pinion is manufactured with an H7 hole, which means that there is a tolerance of 0.000 mm to 0.025 mm.
Mount the pinion with LOCTITE 648, which is specifically designed for cylindrical fasteners and can withstand up to 0.15 mm of play. Caution: assembly must be carried out quickly, as LOCTITE 648 dries very quickly.
