Product description
Fire is one of the biggest fears for any classic Volkswagen owner. Imagine spending years restoring your car, only to lose everything in a very short time. Even if your Volkswagen is well insured, its emotional value is often much higher than the amount an insurance company will eventually pay out.
Prevention is therefore better than cure. With this automatic fire suppression system, you reduce the risk of a small fire in the engine compartment developing into major damage to the engine or even the complete vehicle. A conventional fire extinguisher only helps if you are there in time. This system works automatically, even when you are not directly beside the car.
The hose is secured in the engine compartment using the supplied cable ties. The required length depends on the size of the engine compartment. Each version states which Volkswagen it is suitable for.
The pressure gauge is supplied separately and must be screwed onto the end of the hose before installation. This is completely safe. Fitting the pressure gauge does not release any extinguishing agent and cannot cause the hose to spray. The gauge is only used to check whether the system is pressurised.
The higher the temperature, the higher the pressure inside the hose. At normal engine operating temperatures, the pressure remains within the normal range. If the temperature in the engine compartment becomes very high and the gauge reaches the red area, the system is approaching its activation temperature.
If a local temperature of approximately 120 °C is reached, the hose opens at the hottest point, directly above or near the source of the fire. The extinguishing agent is released only at that location and attacks the fire. The hose therefore does not simply empty by itself, and the system is not activated by fitting or reading the pressure gauge.
The extinguishing agent is not harmful to your classic vehicle and does not harm the environment.
With some insurance companies, a fitted fire suppression system may also affect the premium or form part of the policy requirements. The system must be demonstrably replaced every 5 years. After this period, correct operation can no longer be guaranteed.
