Product description
When a cylinder head is reconditioned, it is in most cases also resurfaced. Resurfacing increases the compression ratio. To prevent the compression ratio from becoming too high, this is compensated by using shims that are installed between the cylinder and the cylinder head.
Many reconditioning companies apply a marking to the underside of the cylinder head. This marking indicates how many millimetres of material have been removed from the cylinder head.
These shims can also be used to set the correct combustion chamber volume and therefore the correct compression ratio. This is for example necessary when cylinder heads other than the original ones fitted to the engine are used.
Never use two shims stacked on top of each other in the same location. If more than one shim is required, install one shim between the cylinder and the cylinder head and one shim between the crankcase and the cylinder. This option is listed under the Options tab.
