Product description
If a vehicle pulls to one side while braking, this is often caused by incorrect adjustment of the brake shoes. The brake shoes must be adjusted equally on both the left and right sides.
Release the handbrake and press the brake pedal several times to centre the brake shoes. Then, through the opening in the brake backing plate or brake drum, turn the adjusting nut of each brake shoe with a screwdriver until the brake shoe touches the drum. Next, turn the adjusting nut back by 3 to 4 teeth until the drum rotates freely again. Please note that the adjusting nuts on each drum turn in opposite directions.
Assemble the mechanism using heat-resistant grease. This is listed under the ‘Options’ tab.
A partially seized or rusted adjusting mechanism has, in many cases, caused the teeth of the adjusting nuts to break off or become deformed. In this case, the adjusting nuts must be replaced.
