On almost every restoration, the window seals are an important point of attention. In most cases they have dried out or deteriorated due to age and weather exposure, which can lead to leaks. Good rubber quality is therefore very important; lower-quality rubber can dry out sooner, fit less well and eventually cause leakage.
This deluxe windscreen seal has a groove for the trim and is intended for Beetle Convertible models where the window recess is equipped with barbs. Check this before ordering. On versions without these barbs, a different seal is required, which can be found under the Other Models tab.
The window seal is supplied without the trim. The trim is often also due for replacement, so we recommend ordering it at the same time. The correct version can be found under the Options tab.
The easiest way to install the window seal is with a piece of cord:
1. Fit the seal around the glass.
2. Place a piece of cord in the groove that will later be pulled over the body edge.
3. Apply glycerine to the window recess (see also the note below).
4. Position the glass with the seal against the window recess and press it firmly into place.
5. Slowly pull the cord from the inside so that the edge of the seal is pulled over the raised body edge.
6. After installation, press the glass firmly into position and check from the inside that the seal is correctly seated all around.
The glass is best installed by two people. One person presses the glass firmly against the recess from the outside, while the other slowly pulls the cord out of the seal from the inside. Let the ends of the cord overlap slightly; this makes the final part of the installation easier.
Note: Use only glycerine during installation and no other lubricants such as grease, soapy water, multi-spray or similar products. These can attack the rubber, causing it to dry out and crack prematurely. If it can be shown that other products have been used, no warranty can be given.
Attention: This window seal is only suitable for a plastic trim, as originally used on this version. The plastic trim is fitted only after the glass with the seal has been installed in the body.
