Our rebuilt engines are assembled as follows:
Crankcase & machining
- Cleaned and inspected crankcase (for cracks and wear)
- Align boring of main and camshaft bearing housings
- Thrust bearing seat restoration
- Cylinder seating surfaces resurfaced
- Oil plunger bore restored
- Optional: new original crankcase
Rotating assembly
- Ground original or new crankshaft (4140 chromoly with counterweights)
- Reconditioned or new connecting rods
- New steel-backed bearings
Camshaft & lubrication
- New camshaft (NOS VW for 1500/1600 engines)
- New lifters
- Schadek oil pump
- New oil pressure springs
Cylinders & heads
- New pistons and cylinders
- New or reconditioned cylinder heads, assembled in-house (incl. EMC valve springs)
Other components
- New or resurfaced flywheel
- Stainless steel pushrod tubes
- New gaskets and spark plugs

- Assembly with synthetic assembly paste for optimal lubrication during first start
Tuned 1641 cc rebuilt engine
For those looking for a bit more power, we offer the 1641 cc engine with Engle W100 camshaft. This engine delivers noticeably more torque and flexibility without compromising reliability.
The engine can be built with an original carburetor. We recommend adjusting the jetting for optimal performance.
For maximum performance, this engine can also be built with dual carburetors (single or dual setup).
For use in heavier vehicles such as a bus or convertible, we strongly recommend an oil temperature gauge. We can also install an oil pump suitable for an external oil cooler. Ask us about the possibilities.
Configuration & specifications
This engine is equipped with:
- Mahle 1641 cc piston and cylinder set
- Engle W100 camshaft with new A-quality cam gear
- Reinforced Scat lifters
- CB swivel-feet adjusters (reduce valve stem wear)
- Increased compression ratio
Reliable in practice
All components are precisely measured and matched. Bearing clearances, piston rings and compression ratio are all checked for optimal performance and longevity.
Important to know
- Installation by an experienced mechanic is essential
- For 1200 and 1300 engines, lead substitute is required (reconditioned original cylinder heads)
- Improper use (such as LPG) may affect warranty
- Rebuilding your own engine is possible, ask about the options
