Product description
On the Waterboxer engines of the T25, the thermostat housing is located close to hot engine components. To prevent this heat from directly affecting the thermostat housing, Volkswagen installed a heat shield at this location.
This heat shield is mounted near the thermostat housing and protects it from radiant heat coming from surrounding engine components. As a result, the temperature around the thermostat remains more stable and the cooling system can function optimally.
After many years of use, it is common for this metal plate to become rusty, deformed or even missing, for example after previous repairs. Without this heat shield, the thermostat housing may be unnecessarily exposed to additional heat.
During maintenance or overhaul of the cooling system, it is therefore advisable to check whether the heat shield is still present and in good condition. If not, replacing it is recommended so the cooling system remains properly protected.
