Product description
Breakage of the clutch fork often causes major damage to the clutch housing. In this case, the entire unit must be replaced, including the release bearing guide sleeve.
This guide sleeve is not subject to wear. Damage due to clutch fork problems is therefore the main reason why it has to be replaced, but it is usually purchased for conversion from a so-called floating bearing to a fixed bearing.
On older Volkswagens, the release bearing is not guided but floating, which can lead to problems more quickly, especially if the clutch is heavily used, for example in off-road use or other forms of motorsport.
If your gearbox has mounting slots for the guide bushing, you can convert it. If it doesn't, you'll have to tap the threads, and if that's not possible, you'll have to look for another gearbox perfectly prepared for the purpose.
You can choose between two qualities. The difference lies in the more careful pressing of the assembly, but there's a second argument in favor of quality A: it has oil drain holes, whereas quality B does not.
When there is a slight oil leak at the input shaft, the hole ensures that the oil can drain outwards instead of towards the clutch plate. When this guide bushing was introduced in the early 1970s, this hole was not present, but Volkswagen later improved this. If you want a completely original part and your Volkswagen is from the early 1970s, then the B-quality is a good choice. If you prefer the improved version, choose the A-quality, even though it may not have been original on your Volkswagen when it left the factory.
