Product description
Generators and alternators have a bearing on both sides of the armature shaft, followed by a washer and a fairly large intermediate ring. This intermediate ring is wedged between the alternator pulley and, where applicable, the fan.
When these parts are dismantled, the intermediate ring can easily slip off. And that's often where the problem lies: without being noticed, the ring gets lost, even though it's essential for mounting the pulley and possibly the fan at the right distance.
VW models and model years only indicate when these rings were present at the factory. For VW models and/or model years not listed, they were not. If the generator has already been replaced, there's a good chance that it was fitted with spacer rings, even if the model or year of manufacture in question is not mentioned.
With the exception of the VW Type 3 generator, DC dynamos always use two equal rings. Alternators are different: a larger ring is used at the front than at the rear.
To be sure, check the dimensions given to make sure you're ordering the right ring for your alternator.
