Product description
The trunk lid release cable is located in the glove compartment of the VW Beetle and Karmann Ghia. If the cable needs replacing, it comes with a tensioning sleeve for attaching it to the handle.
What many people don't know is that Volkswagen didn't use a tensioning sleeve until the 1973 model year, before which it used a notched pin. Both have the same function, but the cam pin is much more secure.
This same pin was also used for the front underfloor heating cable, which, on both the Beetle and the Karmann Ghia, was not used until the 1969 model year.
Once a pin is jammed, you can't use it any more; it may jam a little, but it quickly comes loose. That's why Volkswagen replaced this pin with a tension sleeve in 1972, which can be reused if necessary, although many don't, as a tension sleeve also loses its range over time.
If you opt for the 100% original, the cables mentioned must be secured with a detent pin up to the year of manufacture mentioned.
