At every major service, the filter element, located in the air filter housing, is often very dirty and will need to be replaced. If this is not done in time, insufficient air may be drawn in, resulting in poorer engine performance. With extreme contamination, the filter can no longer do its job, there is then a high chance of dirt being sucked in (which can lead to engine damage). In addition to replacing the filter, clean the inside of the filter housing and immediately check all connections and replace porous hoses. The air filter housing is opened by clamps after which the filter becomes accessible.

Sport air filter elements
Chances are your original air filter has been replaced with a sport filter, separate filter elements are available for most sport filters. Not all sport air filter elements need to be replaced at every service, for cotton air filter elements intermediate cleaning and reapplication of air filter oil is sufficient.
