On air-cooled engines, the oil filter, located behind the crankcase cover, must be checked for damage and thoroughly cleaned at every oil change. Standard paper gaskets and sealing rings around mounting nuts are not reusable. Once a gasket is pressed in, it is guaranteed to leak if reused.

Type 1, Type 3 and CT/CZ motors
The gasket set for these motors consists of two gaskets, six copper-plated washers and a sealing ring for the drain plug (if you don't use a ring, you keep it). You can choose between two grades of sealing paper:

B quality: suitable for flat or slightly corroded surfaces, but requires the use of a liquid sealant.

A quality: provides a better seal and is comparable to the original factory grade. The liquid seal is only necessary for highly corroded surfaces.

Tip: want the best? Choose the silicone version instead of sealing paper. It's reusable, seals perfectly and can be found under the Alternatives tab.

Type 4 engines
The kit for Type 4 engines includes two gaskets and a sealing ring for the drain plug. Here, too, you can choose between two grades of sealing paper, with the same difference in quality as for the kits for Type 1, Type 3 and CT/CZ engines.

Additional oil sump (0.95 liter)
If you have fitted an additional oil sump to your Type 1, Type 3 or CT/CZ engine, the seal between the original sump cover and the additional sump differs from the standard format. It is larger and must also be replaced at every oil change. For more information, please refer to the relevant order number.

Important to know
Originally, no liquid seals were used. But as our engines get older, the interfaces are increasingly showing corrosion and dents which are not always sealed by the paper gasket. For optimum sealing, we recommend lightly rubbing the gasket with liquid gasket (see Options tab).
