Product description
In the case of diesel engines, the thermostat is housed in the water pump housing. Coolant is pumped out of the engine and flows through the thermostat to the radiator.
A weak point is the plastic flange of the water pump behind which the thermostat is housed. Due to temperature differences, the plastic shows fine cracks (drying out) over time, leading to leaks. Aluminum would have been a better choice but, as with many parts related to the cooling system, plastic was chosen.
If a new water pump is installed, check this flange. Or better yet, replace it like the thermostat, then you can be sure it will work without any problems.
The water pump flange is supplied with the gasket.
