Product description
When it was overhauled in August 1974, the 1303 was the only Volkswagen Beetle model to be upgraded with a rack-and-pinion steering gear. Volkswagen waited until the arrival of the third generation VW Bus to replace the roller steering box with a rack and pinion steering box.
The track rods are attached to the steering box, with the mounting location on the VW Vanagon being shielded with a dust cover on each side. On the Volkswagen Beetle this is a one-piece cover, the track rods are attached to the outside in the middle of the steering box.
Dust covers are not allowed to show any cracks, if this is the case, you will have to replace them.
Note: For the VW Beetle and VW Vanagon Syncro, the boost must be fastened with clamps, always order these additionally. On the Volkswagen Beetle, they are fastened with stepless ear clamps which cannot be reused. The clamps are listed on the Exploded View drawing.
