Product description
A catalytic converter is responsible for neutralizing the harmful substances emitted by the engine. In the catalytic converter, these harmful gases are converted by a chemical reaction into harmless substances.
Inside the catalytic converter is a ceramic block with a honeycomb structure. The honeycomb of the catalyst is impregnated with various precious metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium, which ensure the neutralization of the harmful substances and their transformation into nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water. The purified gases finally leave the vehicle through the exhaust system.
The date when the catalytic converter became mandatory varies from country to country; in the Netherlands it was only made mandatory in 1992, while in most American states it was mandatory long before that. If the catalytic converter is not mandatory in the country where your Volkswagen Bus is registered, you can replace it with a catalytic converter replacement tube (see tab "Alternatives").
The catalytic converter shown here is made of stainless steel, the outer surface of which has been highly polished to a high gloss, giving it not only a very attractive appearance but also a long service life. Only in the event of fouling will replacement be necessary, but if your engine is properly tuned and maintained, this is also negligible.
