Product description
On early Volkswagen Beetles, the trunk lid was held open by two interlocking metal strips. Later, this system was greatly improved by the introduction of spring-loaded trunk hinges, which held the trunk lid open on their own.
When the Volkswagen Bus was released, the same lid holder was used to hold the hood open, but this didn't work quite satisfactorily and was replaced by a modified model a few months later.
Due to frequent use of the trunk or hood, the lid holder wears a lot, especially if an attempt is made to close the hood while the lid holder is still locked. This damages not only the lid holder, but also the bonnet, so you should always try to avoid this.
If your lid holder has had its best days, it's available as new, identical to the original and supplied with a black coating.
