Product description
Originally, all tie rods of our classic Volkswagen were equipped with crown nuts which had to be secured with a cotter pin.
If the tie rods have already been replaced, it is often fitted with a self-locking nut. It also regularly happens that a castle nut has been replaced by a lock nut or locking nut. If it is a locknut with a plastic or metal lock, these are disposable, it is a locknut with a spring steel inlay and the nut is not affected by rust, so it can be used several times.
Most cotter pins are no longer available today in the right size for your VW. Therefore, never use a different size cotter pin, but only what Volkswagen has prescribed. Only then can you be assured of adequate safety.
The cotter pins mentioned here meet Volkswagen's specifications in terms of thickness and length, they are not regularly available cotter pins. Therefore, never use split pins of a different size, but only a specially designed cotter pin.
