The purpose of a switching relay is to relieve the load on the switch where a large current has to be switched. Only one coil of the relay needs to be switched, resulting in a much lower control current.
Here are some examples:
-Rear-window heater (standard with relay)
-Starter
-Fog lights
-Large headlights
Always ensure that the relay is mounted as close as possible to the device, and that the switching circuit is also protected by a fuse.
