Product description
The handbrake is deeply hidden under the dashboard in the van; this was not carefully considered during development. It must be possible to operate the handbrake quickly, especially in emergency situations, and that becomes difficult where it is mounted ex-factory. Volkswagen did not fix this inconvenience until the Baywindow Bus came out, but that does not help the Splitscreen Bus owner. What Volkswagen overlooked was picked up by the accessory manufacturers who came out with an extender fairly soon after its introduction. Now, more than 50 years after the fact, they are available again. No chrome or bare steel that can rust or need painting, but made of polished stainless steel. Once mounted, the extender button comes in an easily accessible place. To use the handbrake you pull on the extender and the handbrake is energized, to put it back on you push the extender down and the handbrake is again unpowered. A part that in retrospect you say "I should have had that years ago".
The button is not included!
For this we use a button with an internal thread of 10 mm or the same button that is used for the gearshift on every Bus until July 1967. Below are the buttons you can best use for this (not only the original model, but also two other possibilities where 10mm thread is present) :
#3350: Ivory colored standard button
#4515: Billet Style (aluminum) button
#964: Black vinyl covered button
