If your Volkswagen is not equipped with an electric windscreen washer at the factory or later, the washer system operates on air pressure. From 8.1967, the air pressure of the spare wheel was used, before this period the system was the same but the tank was kept under pressure manually. From the moment the spare wheel took over this task, the windscreen washer tank could be kept under pressure for a longer period of time.

By means of the wiper switch push button or the steering column lever, the washer system is activated, a complete mechanical system that does not require electricity.

If the pressure becomes too low, the windshield washer system will no longer work but there is still enough pressure available to use the spare wheel. It is therefore very important to check the pressure in the spare wheel regularly and inflate it to 3 bar, to make sure that the system will not let you down when you need it.

System leaks are a common problem, the cap very often causes problems. The slightest crack in the cap ensures that you are without air pressure in a very short period of time. In other words, if you have to inflate your spare wheel every week, there is a good chance that the cap is damaged.

This cap is supplied with a flexible hose with a connection section for the spare wheel.

With the Volkswagen Beetle 1302 and 1303, the hose is connected to an intermediate piece on the tank support, a short hose connects the intermediate piece to the spare wheel, this piece is not included.
