If the rear crossmember is rusted and therefore needs to be replaced, you should consider whether to replace the complete crossmember or choose a repair part (cover plate or overlap panel).
This panel is welded on top of the existing crossmember and a few extra grooves have to be made here and there for the recesses of the cables and tubes that run through it.
It is more or less a universal repair crossmember to be used for all years of construction of the Volkswagen Bay Window Bus, it is equal to the repair crossmember that Volkswagen offered as a spare part at the time.
The advantage of using this repair crossmember is that you can leave all cables and hoses in place, it should not be called a real restoration method. It is a way to repair your existing rusty crossmember r to give it back strength. For a true restoration, it is much neater to replace the entire crossmember (listed under the alternatives tab).
