The tail lights can be replaced as a complete unit, but is that really necessary? For originality it is better to retain as many original parts as possible.
The tail light bulb holder is one of those parts that can also be replaced separately. A rusty reflector or other damage can be a good reason to renew only this part. This way the tail light can be properly restored while keeping as many original parts as possible.
