If the outer door handle no longer returns by itself to the starting position when the door is opened, the spring that causes this phenomenon is broken or severely weakened. Of course, you can buy a completely new handle, but by replacing the spring, your handle works like new and you keep the original look of your classic Volkswagen.
To replace the spring, you must tap on the axis of the handle, do not try to pull it off with force, because then the inner shell will break and you will have to buy a new handle. Injecting multispray, like the WD-40, can help if the shaft is stuck due to corrosion.
