Product description
On air-cooled engines, the oil strainer, located behind the sump plate, must be checked for damage and thoroughly cleaned at every oil change. The paper gaskets and sealing rings under the mounting nuts are not reusable. Once a gasket has been compressed, it will almost always leak if reused.
Type 1, Type 3 and CT/CZ engines
The gasket set for these engines consists of two gaskets, six copper-plated sealing rings and one sealing ring for the drain plug. If your drain plug does not use a sealing ring, this ring will be left over.
You can choose from two versions:
B-quality
Suitable for flat or slightly corroded sealing surfaces. With this version, we recommend using a thin layer of liquid gasket.
A-quality
Seals better and is comparable to the original factory quality. Liquid gasket is only required when the sealing surfaces are heavily corroded or damaged.
Tip: Do you want the best possible seal? Then choose the silicone version instead of a paper gasket. It is reusable, seals perfectly and can be found under the Alternatives tab.
Type 4 engines
The gasket set for Type 4 engines consists of two gaskets and one sealing ring for the drain plug.
You can choose from the brands DPH and Victor Reinz. Both are widely used and are excellent for normal use. Our personal preference is Victor Reinz, because in practice it often seals just a little better. At the same time, there are also many customers who have been using the DPH version with complete satisfaction for many years.
Extra oil sump (0.95 litre)
When an extra 0.95 litre oil sump is fitted to a Type 1, Type 3 or CT/CZ engine, the gasket between the original sump plate and the extra oil sump differs from the standard version. This gasket is larger and must also be replaced at every oil change. More information about this can be found under the relevant order number.
Important to know
Liquid gasket was not used at the factory. Due to the age of our engines, however, the sealing surfaces are often affected nowadays by corrosion or small irregularities, meaning a paper gasket no longer always seals optimally.
For this reason, we recommend lightly coating both sides of the gasket with a thin layer of liquid gasket. This provides a better seal and significantly reduces the risk of oil leakage (see the Options tab).
