Westfalia motorhomes are equipped with a roof extension, part of which can be folded away to increase headroom. The fixed part is fitted with a luggage compartment in which additional items can be stored, either loose or attached in a roof bag.
With Volkswagen's model change in 1980, this trunk was retained on most versions. Only on Club Van, California and Atlantic models was it replaced by a roof spoiler.
The trunk and spoiler are mounted on the roof using rubber clamps. Over time, these rubbers age and become leaky, allowing dirt and water to accumulate under the spoiler or trunk, with all the negative consequences this entails. Timely replacement of the rubbers avoids this problem and ensures a lasting seal.
