Product description
California has always been at the forefront of tightening emissions requirements. This is the main reason for the switch from carburetor to fuel injection for the U.S. market. A fuel-injected engine has an exhaust gas recirculation system, better known as EGR (Emission Gas Recirculation). The principle of EGR is that a quantity of engine exhaust gas is returned to the combustion chamber(s). When this exhaust gas is mixed with the incoming air, the oxygen content (and therefore the lambda value) of the combustion mixture decreases. More inert gas is thus introduced into the combustion chamber. When burning the fuel, the resulting heat must now be distributed over a larger mass. This lowers the combustion temperature and thus the NOx emissions, as NOx is mainly formed at high combustion temperatures. This system reduces the nitrogen oxide content of the exhaust gas by up to 30 percent. The connecting pipe between the exhaust system and the filter itself are often rusty, especially if the car is not used daily, as moisture is more likely to attack these metal parts.
When replacing them, you will also need to renew the seals, so order them now. In addition to the connection pipe between the exhaust and the filter, there are two other, less vulnerable connection pipes that are unfortunately not available in new condition, but fortunately often do not need to be replaced. If you want to replace all the joints for the entire system, you will need a total of 7.
Note: Two gaskets are used on top of each other between the filter and the intermediate tube to the EGR valve.
