Product description
T25/T3 diesel engines are the only ones in our model range where the camshaft and diesel pump are driven by a timing belt. Volkswagen does not specify when it should be replaced, but the general rule is every 50,000 miles. If you're not sure when the timing belt was replaced, we recommend doing it immediately. Only then can you be sure that you are not driving with a worn timing belt (which can cause considerable engine damage if it breaks). If there is no way to verify the accuracy of the mileage, don't take an unnecessary risk and replace the timing belt.
The timing belt is supplied as a set (with the tensioner). A sticker is also provided, on which the mileage and replacement date should be noted. Place this sticker on the timing head so that you (and possibly a new owner) know exactly when the timing belt needs to be replaced again.
It is very important that you have the right tools to make sure the camshaft and injection pump are exactly on time and do not expire during the tensioning process. If you do not have all the necessary tools, order them directly, see the 'Options' tab:
