Product description
Difficulty shifting gears may be the result of a worn gearbox, but the cause can also be simpler; the coupling between the shift rod and the gearbox may be worn.
On the VW Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3 and Trekker, the shift rod is easily accessible by removing the plate above the chassis number under the rear seat. On the Volkswagen Bus, you need to crawl underneath the vehicle to access it.
To absorb vibrations, part of the coupling is vulcanized in rubber. Over time, drying out causes play to develop, which can make it difficult or even impossible to select the correct gear.
The shift rod of the Volkswagen Bus consists of several parts. We distinguish the rear coupling, which connects the shift rod to the gearbox, and a middle coupling, which connects the two longest shift rods. This middle coupling is a solid connecting piece, without vulcanized components.
