This rubber seal provides a dust tight seal between the steering rack and the input shaft.
In many steering racks this seal is no longer present but it should be, it protects your steering rack from external influences.
Note: The flat side should be against the steering rack, we regularly find that this is not the case, so the seal cannot prove its usefulness
