Product description
Most contact locks consist of two parts, a mechanical part that is operated with the key, and the electrical part behind it. Many want to replace everything, but in most cases only the electrical part is broken. If you also replace the mechanical part, you have an additional key that may not be necessary at all.
The electrical part will suffer most in the starting position, this is the position where the highest current has to be switched. You can't fix it, you'll have to replace it. If you don't want to do it a second time, make sure your ignition switch is protected by a starter relay, you will find it in the "Options" tab.
Consult your workshop manual for instructions on how to remove and reinstall the lock, this is not the same for all VW models.
