The latest Volkswagen Beetles and all petrol-powered VW Vanagon models are equipped as standard with an electronic ignition controlled by the ignition module.
Problems with this ignition module occur on a regular basis: poor starting, erratic operation and spontaneous timing can be the causes of a defective ignition module. There is nothing to be done, it is a closed unit that can only be completely replaced. The ignition module often fails due to a defective ignition coil, spark plugs or defective spark plug cables.
It is therefore important that these parts are in good condition before assembling a new module. You won't be the first to break a brand new ignition module because of a defective ignition part.
