The VW Thing was not the only one frequently used for military purposes at the time, the Volkswagen Bay Window Bis was also a popular means of transport for the army.
Vehicles specially produced for the military had to meet different requirements from those of the civilian versions. Among other things, the distributor had to be leak-proof, a sealing cap was placed on the head of the igniter, which was closed by means of a rubber ring.
If you want to keep your original military vehicle in its finest detail, the distributor must also be sealed. This specific rubber ring replaces the original dilapidated one, not a universal ring that does not close, but a rubber ring that is 100% equal to the original.
