Faster gear changes can make the difference between winning and losing in a race, but most of us install a fast shifter to improve driving comfort.
The best thing would be to be able to maintain a normal sitting position when shifting gears, which is often not the case with the original gearshift lever. A quick-shift lever is the solution: the shift path is offset so you can not only change gear more quickly, but also drive more comfortably.
There are several quick-shift levers available, but most of them are based on racing use, where the appearance doesn't resemble the original at all. Classic Sport quick-change levers are the only ones of their kind to have taken maximum account of the original look. The secret is underneath, in the form of an integrated quick-shift system that shortens the lever stroke by 35%. The only difference in terms of shifting is in the reverse lock: you don't have to push it down like the original, but pull it up to engage the reverse gear.
Supplied complete, for the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, VW Type 3 and VW Thing the gearshift lever is fitted with an ivory-colored knob and a creamy-white powder-coated shift rod, while the VW Bus version is fitted with a black knob and a stainless steel shift rod. Mounting hardware and an Allen key are supplied with all shifters.
