The Cal-Look trend originated in California in the 1970s. One of the main features of this style was a clean and smooth exterior, with distracting parts being hidden or removed as much as possible.

The bumpers were often removed as well. For many, however, driving without any bumpers at all was a step too far. T-bars offered the ideal solution: they do not provide the protective function of a bumper, but they do give the car a cleaner and sportier appearance.

T-bars are still popular today in the Custom and Cal-Look scene. They are available in chrome-plated steel, steel with a black ED coating, and matt silver-coloured anodised aluminium.

Chrome-plated steel:
The authentic version, made from steel with a chrome finish. Chrome requires regular maintenance; moisture and dirt can eventually cause rust. Drying the T-bars after rain and polishing them regularly will help keep them looking good for longer.

Steel with black ED coating:
Finished with an electrically applied protective coating that evenly covers the steel and provides good protection against rust and corrosion. The T-bars can be fitted as they are, but prolonged exposure to the elements may eventually still lead to corrosion. For a more durable finish, they can be painted or powder coated. Before powder coating, the T-bars are usually blasted, which removes the ED coating.

Matt silver-coloured anodised aluminium:
This version is lightweight and has an anodised protective layer. This makes the aluminium highly resistant to corrosion and weather conditions and requires less maintenance than chrome-plated steel.
