Product description
The steering damper is mounted with vulcanized bushings that ensure that there is no play, but can absorb shocks at the same time.
The Beetle, Karmann Ghia, VW Thing and type 3 have one bushing mounted in the steering damper and the other in the steering bar or steering lever. The steering damper of the VW Bus has a vulcanized bushing on both sides.
When replacing the steering damper, check that these bushings are not altered by the weather, which can be detected by cracks in the rubber, or that the metal is loose. A worn-out bushing can cause an easily noticeable vibration.
Remove the steering lever and/or steering damper, remove the old bushing(s), remove the rust from the inside and press a new bushing(s) with universal grease (see tabs Options).
