On VW1200, VW1300 and VW1500 Beetle models produced from August 1967 onwards, the gear shift rod can only be removed by removing the cover plate in the spare wheel well and the plate in the front panel. The plate mentioned here is in the front panel and consists of two parts, the plate in the spare wheel well is in the options tab.

On VW Type 3 models this cover plate is also used in both rear mudguards to access the rear axle suspension rods without having to remove the rear mudguards.

The cover plate shown here is made entirely of powder coated stainless steel. Rust, for which you would most likely have to replace this plate, will never appear again. The design is identical to the original in every detail, for example, the inner plate is larger than the outer part, as the original should be. When assembled, the mounting nut does not extend beyond the edges of the post, so the length of the threaded end is also identical to the original in that small detail. If you want your VW to be original in every detail, paint the outer plate in the body color and leave the inner plate black.

Note: The included wavy spring washer is only used for VW Type 3 rear fenders, when mounting in the VW Beetle front fender, it is not used.

Please note: This is a 100% exact reproduction that fits perfectly into an original front panel or rear fender, if there is too thick a layer of filler, or if the edge into which the plate falls is deformed, the threaded rod will be too short and the two pieces will not fit or will fit with difficulty. The same goes for a reproduction front plate or a reproduction rear fender part: the sheet metal will have to be adapted for the plate to fit properly.
