Until 1967, the Volkswagen Bus was fitted as standard with a mirror surface that was far too small to pass the technical inspection today. Volkswagen customers soon complained, but until the model change in 1967, little changed, except that an additional option was offered with a much larger mirror surface in the shape of an elephant's ear.

Under normal circumstances, this mirror faces upwards and as soon as a trailer is pulled, it can be tilted backwards for a deeper view. Like many additional accessories and options, the elephant ear mirror is back as a reproduction. Replaces both mirror and arm and has a stainless steel back with a chrome mirror arm.

To prevent damage in the event of a minor collision, the outer contour of the mirror is equipped with an impact rubber, which was then frequently used in the automotive industry with so-called conversion mirrors that provided a better view to the rear when towing a trailer.

The mirrors are delivered with an ivory impact rubber, if you want you can change it for a grey rubber. The impact rubber can be found under the Options tab.
