Product description
The power of an ignition coil decreases slightly with age. Our ignition coils produce a more powerful secondary voltage, so not only is replacement of the ignition coil necessary in the case of a defective ignition coil, but replacing an old ignition coil that is still in working order ensures a more powerful spark on the spark plugs.
Please note: there is a difference between ignition coils for conventional ignition (contact points) and for engines equipped with factory electronic ignition. An ignition coil intended for conventional ignition cannot be used on engines with electronic ignition. Engines equipped with electronic ignition or 123 ignition are exceptions to this rule, and continue to use an ignition coil intended for conventional ignition.
Note on oil-filled ignition coils :
An oil-filled ignition coil, as the name suggests, is filled with a special insulating and cooling oil. This oil ensures that the internal windings of the ignition coil remain properly cooled and electrically insulated. Installation position is therefore very important.
When an oil-filled ignition coil is mounted vertically, the oil is in the right place inside the housing. The heat generated during operation can be optimally dissipated, and the electrical components remain fully immersed in the oil. This ensures stable sparking, longer life and prevents internal damage.
However, if the coil is mounted horizontally or at an angle, the oil can shift. This can cause parts of the internal coils to become dry, resulting in insufficient cooling of the coil. This can lead to overheating, power loss, misfires, and, in the worst case, a defective coil. Incorrect installation can also cause oil leaks.
That is why all manufacturers recommend that oil-filled coils always be mounted vertically, even if this is not the case with the original. This ensures that the coil continues to function reliably and retains its maximum service life.
