The brake shoe retraction
springs sometimes offer a

lot of resistance. Once the

lock springs with metal
retainer have been

removed, the

brake shoes will
almost automati-

cally want to come

loose. You only have
to pull them from

over the wheel brake

cylinder, without loos-
ening the retraction

springs (picture 7).
