If your Volkswagen is equipped with a steel sliding roof, you have a luxury version, or it is possible that the sliding roof was ordered as an additional option at the VW dealer.
The sliding roof contains many parts that are subject to wear and tear. For the first 15 years, this was probably not a problem, but after that, there will be defects, even if the sliding roof is not used at all. Not only the rotating mechanism or the cables, but also the plastic plugs used to finish the mechanism, which also guide and finish the cables, are often yellowed and half digested. The influence of the sun has everything to do with it.
The cable guide covers are fixed with screws. When tightening the screws, the clamp attached to the cap will deflect, causing a tightening. If the clamp is too tight, it will spread too far and break. Once broken, there is no longer any clamping range and the plug is loosened at this point. Therefore, this must be taken into account during assembly.
Caps or covers are used to finish the screw heads. These caps are shown on the Options tab.
