Over the years, Volkswagen has always had the option of installing an optional sunroof. For the Volkswagen Bus and the Volkswagen Beetle, it was originally a folding canvas roof, which was later replaced by a steel sliding roof. For the VW type 3 models, only a steel sliding roof was available.
If the roof is pulled sideways or cannot be moved at all, the problem is often caused by the cables that operate the roof. There is not much to do, replacing the cables is the only solution.
The cables are located to the left and right of the sunroof and are integrated into the bodywork. In many cases, you will find a broken cable or a cable so severely affected by corrosion that it no longer moves, but it may also be the drive mechanism that is defective.
The left and right cables must be well aligned for the pinion to move them both equally. If this is not the case, too much force will be applied to a wire rope, causing the sprocket to slip and damage the wire rope. If the rope is damaged due to incorrect installation, the warranty is excluded.the rope is a reproduction of the original, but a very high quality reproduction equal to the original.
Note : Always order the spring plate that ensures that the cables are pressed against the gear wheel with the clip (mentioned on the options tab), this clip is made of spring steel which will lose its elasticity after a while. Especially with our classics, the function of this spring plate will have decreased a lot by now.
